British Poultry Awards 2019

Now Open For Entries!

The British Poultry Council is inviting all poultry producers, farmers and suppliers to enter the British Poultry Awards 2019. It is the biggest annual event in the industry’s calendar which showcases the very best chicken, turkey, duck and goose products within the retail and foodservice sectors. It also recognises the hard work and innovation that the supply chain contributes to the everyday operation of the industry.

There are 15 categories in total, 8 product-based categories, 3 supply chain, 2 recipe competitions and the coveted retail and foodservice operators of the year awards. Entries are expected to include the latest products across seasonal and all year round with the deadline set for the 24th May 2019 with the Supply Chain Awards deadline being 28th June 2019.

Shortlisted products will be assessed against set criteria such as taste, appearance, quality, packaging and best use of the protein for the target market.

The Poultry Retailer of the Year category winner has the opportunity to carry the endorsement on its entire range of everyday fresh poultry cuts for a period of 12 months, while all winners will benefit from a dedicated logo to use on their advertising and POS campaigns.

Supply Chain Award

Standout Performance

This award category is aimed solely at the poultry industry supply chain. We are seeking a company which has demonstrated standout performance within their sector during the past 2 years and which has led to a marked increase in the level of production and effectiveness of the supply chain within the British chicken, turkey or duck industry.

This could be implementing new technology, special training, increasing business, apprentice schemes, and anything else that has made a noticeable difference. We welcome entries from all companies within the supply chain. Companies can also be nominated by poultry producers.

Supply Chain Award

Champion

This award category is aimed solely at the poultry industry supply chain. We want to recognise an individual at any level who has made a significant difference within their area of work.

A person who has gone above and beyond expectation and made moves to drive improvement within the British chicken, turkey or duck industry.

We welcome entries from all companies within the supply chain. Companies can also be nominated by poultry producers.

Supply Chain Award

Innovation

This award category is aimed solely at the poultry industry supply chain. We are seeking a company that has pushed the boundaries in the field of innovation and created a first for the industry in the last 2 years. This could be cutting-edge innovative or pioneering work which has shown to be of significant benefit to the British chicken, turkey or duck industry.

It could be a new direction, idea, or way of thinking within the supply chain which has made a difference to the way poultry is grown or it could have made significant improvements towards sustainability, health or energy services. We welcome entries from all companies within the supply chain. Companies can also be nominated by poultry producers.

Retailer Product Awards Criteria

Note: For all product categories, judges will be scoring on taste; succulence, texture; aroma; value for money for target audience; innovation; packaging; appearance – and how well the judges deem that the product achieves the aims provided on the entry form.

1. Best British Chicken Product – All Year

Definition: Chicken from retailers’ (multiples and independents) all year-round, everyday ranges. Entries can be added value or primary, ready meals, whole birds or joints. Branded or own-label. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked.

3. Best British Duck Product – All Year

Definition: Duck from retailers’ (multiples and independents) all year-round, every day ranges. Entries can be added value or primary, joints or whole birds. Branded or own-label. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked.

5. Best British Turkey Product – All Year

Definition: Turkey from retailers’ (multiples and independents) all year-round, every day ranges. Entries can be added value or primary, ready meals, joints or whole birds. Branded or own-label. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked.

7. Best British Poultry New Launch Product

Definition: Chicken, Turkey or Duck product from retailers’ (multiples and independents) seasonal or all year-round ranges launched sold within the last 12 months. Entries can be added value or primary, ready meals, joints or whole birds. Branded or own-label. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked.

9. British Poultry Retailer of the Year

Definition: Chicken, Turkey and Duck range sold in retailers’ all year round. List the whole range with prices. Products in the range can be added value or primary, joints or whole birds. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked. Judges may visit retailers’ sites to view products in situ. No samples required for judging.

2. Best British Chicken Product – Seasonal

Definition: Chicken product from retailers’ (multiples or independents) seasonal ranges e.g. Easter/ BBQ/Christmas which are available for a limited time. Entries can be added value or primary, ready meals, whole birds or joints. Branded or own-label. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked.

4. Best British Duck Product – Seasonal

Definition: Duck from retailers’ (multiples and independents) seasonal ranges e.g. Easter/ BBQ/Christmas which are available for a limited time. Entries can be added value or primary, joints or whole birds. Branded or own-label. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked.

6. Best British Turkey Product – Seasonal

Definition: Turkey from retailers’ (multiples and independents) seasonal ranges e.g. Easter/ BBQ/Christmas which are available for a limited time. Entries can be added value or primary, joints or whole birds. Branded or own- label. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked.

8. Best British Poultry Recipe Writer*

Definition: National food writers’ competition – judged separately.
Awarded to the best chicken, duck or turkey recipe created by a professional journalist. The recipe has to have been published in print or online sometime in 2018/2019. Recipe must be original, and demonstrate imagination and versatility of cuts. Entries to be accompanied by a press clipping or link to the coverage.

Foodservice Awards Criteria

01. British Poultry – Student Chef of the Year*

Definition: National catering colleges competition – judged separately Awarded to the best poultry dish created by a trainee chef, to be served at the British Poultry Awards ceremony dinner.

02. Best British Poultry Foodservice Product

Definition: Chicken, Turkey or Duck product sold to foodservice market (profit or cost sector) all year round. Entries can be added value or primary, joints or whole birds. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked. One sample required if shortlisted.

03. British Poultry Foodservice Operator of the Year

Definition: Chicken, Turkey and Duck range sold to foodservice market (profit or cost sector) all year round. List whole range. Products in the range can be added value or primary, joints or whole birds. Fresh or frozen or pre-cooked. Judges may visit a site to taste cooked dishes. Product samples are not required to be sent in.
