Meet… Connie!

Bio: I am currently coming to the end of my placement with Moy Park, where I have spent 4 months with the broiler team, 3 months at the hatchery and 8 months with the breeder team.

I am studying Animal Production Science and will be going into my final year in October.

I enjoy textiles, sports and have recently taken up clay pigeon shooting.

Get to know Connie…

I wanted to study at Harper because…

“the University offered the ideal course for me, which focused on livestock science, and the facilities allowed a practical approach to learning. I knew the placement year would be a fantastic opportunity for me to gain more experience in the poultry industry.”

A piece of advice you’d give to a prospective Food Hero is…

“get as much experience as possible. Everyone in the poultry industry is so willing to teach and share their knowledge. Take every opportunity you are offered.”

In 10 years I want to…

“advise farmers on the health and performance of their flock, and hope to be contributing to the development of poultry production.”

One thing I would tell myself before I started Harper would be…

“make the most of it! There is so much to get involved with, both academically and socially, that will really benefit your future.”

What I offer the industry is…

“an enthusiasm for science as well as a practical mind set.”

What the industry offers me…

“a chance to be at the forefront of a vital part of British agriculture – the chance to both enhance and learn skills, network with new people, and follow my ambitions in a sector that has already given me so much support and encouragement. I look forward to a future career in such a progressive industry.”

A typical day for me…

“assisting the breeder management team with tasks such as sampling, writing reports, helping out on farms and assisting with trials, as well as studying – no two days are the same!”
