The Poultry Health & Welfare Group (PHWG) welcomes the introduction of funded Poultry Biosecurity Reviews through the Animal Health & Welfare Pathway. This marks the first time the poultry sector has received funding under the Pathway and represents an important step in supporting poultry keepers in England to strengthen on-farm biosecurity and improve resilience against avian influenza.
Máire Burnett, Chair of the Poultry Health & Welfare Group, said:
The Poultry Health & Welfare Group (PHWG) welcomes the introduction of funded Poultry Biosecurity Reviews in England through the Animal Health & Welfare Pathway. This is the first opportunity for the poultry sector to benefit from government funding under the Pathway since its introduction and reflects the importance of maintaining high standards of biosecurity to protect flocks from avian influenza and other disease challenges.
The PHWG has worked closely with Defra’s Pathway officials and industry partners to secure the inclusion of avian influenza within the Pathway and is pleased to see this support now available to eligible poultry keepers in England. The funded veterinary visits will provide tailored, practical advice to help bird keepers identify and address site-specific biosecurity risks, strengthening the sector’s resilience to future disease threats.
We encourage all eligible poultry keepers in England to take advantage of this opportunity and apply for a Poultry Biosecurity Review.
